So while scouting for the “perfect spot” for Forest Bump this weekend with
we saw a lot of evidence of the National Forest Service’s new fire prevention
policies (thanks to the Bush administration).
Almost everywhere we went, there were stacks of logs or stumps left where
trees once stood. Sure, they’re thinning the forest to prevent uncontrollable
fires. But I thought the point was to clear out under growth, not cut down
the towering pines, many of which are (were) several feet in diameter.
