Tokyo Doesn’t love us Anymore

Chris lent me this book when I left his house yesterday.
I’m really digging it so far.

The instant sunshine begins to take effect, the saddest
letters never reach their destination. That’s how antidepressants
work. Absentminded postmen who forget to delivery bad
news. The neurones turn into little houses surrounded by
fences with green gardens and untouched mailboxes.

I’m leaving LA…AGAIN

Sitting in LAX waiting for my flight to board.

That’s right, within a week of arriving in NJ I boarded
a plane and flew to LAX. BoRyan had organized an IS
Team Summit and it was imperative that I participate.
Thankfully, the company felt the same way and financed
my trip back for 5 days.

The summit was held Wednesday evening through Friday
afternoon. The days were spent participating in some
awesome team building activities. The evenings were
spent with each other in some great relationship
building activites.

Being a “virtual” geographically distributed company,
it is a rare occurance to sit at a table with the entire
IS team.

I’ve never been part of such a solid team. The amount
of passion, intelligence, and expertise in that room
was astounding.

I came away from the event with a feeling of euphoria.
I feel even better about my job and the oportunites it
has afforded me.

Friday night was spent with Danielle eating pizza at
Village Pizza followed by consumption of the black and
white cookie I brought back from Friedman’s in Belmar, NJ.

Took the blue line down to Long Beach and spent the rest of
the weekend with Erik and Brian. Ate lunch at Kamal Palace
followed by bike riding at the beach with Erik and Jesse on
Saturday. Later that night I had an amazing dinner with Erik
and Brian at the crappery on 2nd Street.

Sunday was spent fondling servers and hanging out at Ervin’s
Birthday BBQ. Saw a lot of friends all in one place. Makes
visiting easy!!! Connected with a few people, shared stories,
and even gave a geography lesson to a brit.

Now I sit here…waiting for my flight back to NJ, where
Chris will collect me in the morning and madness will ensue.

Yes, in case anyone is wondering…there is free wifi in Terminal 6
at LAX. Looking to my right, I see at least 8 other people sitting
along the wall adjacent to the concourse. Every available power
outlet on this wall is connected to a laptop! I <3 technology. I can't beleive the weekend is over already. It feels like Erik just picked me up at the blue line station an hour ago!!! I'm glad we spent time together...even if it did feel like it wasn't long enough.

travelblog completed!

Updated day15. That’s it for the first leg of my summer journeys.

I’m back in LA for an IS Summit. Basically dept team building meetings.
I fly back to NJ on Sunday.

Recently worked out details for a place to live in SF (at least through December).
Turns out my friend Rob is in need of a roommate…and as I’d planned on being a
couchboy at his place anyways…it works out perfectly!

Alas, now it is time for bed.
I am full of macadamia encrusted mahi mahi.

Fuck the police!

Rode my bike down to the beach and then stopped by my dad’s shop on
the way back to the house. Had a run in with the police, which informed
me that it is illegal to walk a bike on the boardwalk. Strollers (including
three-child shuttles) are permitted, however, and they didn’t like when
I questioned the safety of them. At the risk of being given a ticket,
I left the boardwalk. Oh well. Definitely had my fun people watching at
Point Pleasant Beach. 😀

Updated Day 14 from the trip…only one day left and I’ll be finished
with the updates. Tried getting into a clinic today about my headaches
but couldn’t find anywhere within an hour from my dad’s house. We’ll
see how I’m feeling in a few days. I just might go to Talbert while I’m
in Long Beach. I’m hoping a good night’s sleep will improve the pain
I am feeling…we shall see. More than anything, I hope the ear aches
go away. That’s been quite annoying.

Ear Ache?

I woke up with a terrible ear ache.

On the plus side, I ground and brewed some coffee.
Also updated day 13, 2 more to go!!!

I’m annoyed that somehow the 60% fill I had
been using on the map images is suddenly looking
darker. I’ll have to investigate that later.
I hate that my maps now do not look consisitent.

I think I might ride my bike over to dad’s
shop today.

Another Travelblog Update, My head hurts

Updated day 11 and day 12:

On another note…I’m considering going in to see a doctor tomorrow.
I’ve had a headache ever since falling off my bike clumsily last week
in Shenandoah last Thursday. A friend seems to think I might have a
concussion based on my symptoms. From what I can tell online, however,
there’s really nothing that is done to treat a mild concussion other
than sleep and time. I have been reading about the potential complications
that can arise even from a mild concussion and figure it couldn’t hurt
to get checked out by a medical professional, assuming it isn’t too

Watch out for the goose police

Drove up to Belmar this morning for breakfast at Friedman’s.
Although they did not have any tri-color cookies this time,
the breakfast was good as usual. Walked down the street to
find Mr. and Mrs. McCormick chilling on their front porch.
My dad used to live next store and I hung out with their son
when I was younger.

Spent a few hours catching up with them and getting the dish
on Belmar. Apparently the arcade, bars, etc. have been torn
down along Ocean Ave. to make way for high-priced beachfront
houses. Ed is now the manager at Quizno’s down the street.
The boro is considering the enforcement of parking permits.
Also discovered Belmar is considered a “border town” since it
is along the ocean, however the goose police are ready to
step in should Belmar need protection from invaders.

Stopped in to see Ed before heading back. He’s now a volunteer
fireman in Belmar, spent some time as a fireman in SC, and
was one of the volunteers that went to NYC to help dig people
out of the rubble after 9/11/01. He’s looking good, all
grown up.

Left Belmar and checked out Nature’s Corner in Spring Lake.
Not a bad selection of food. No Wild Oats, but definitely rad to find a decent
sized natural foods store that is independently owned/run.

Travelblog Updated!

Updated Day 8, 9, 10.

Today is the last day of my journey. I’ll be making a side trip to
enjoy the view of a syncline in Western Maryland before heading East
to my dad’s in NJ.

As a side not…Josh was correct. Despite the crappy quality of
Hershey’s chocolate, Take5 is an amazing combination of flavors.

Now off to get my oil changed before hitting the road!

TransContinental Update – Currently in Knoxville, TN

Getting ready to head into the Great Smokey Mountains today.

Updated: Day 6 and Day 7

Day 5

Day 5 updated:

Erik is on his way home.
The remainder of the trip will be solo and at a slower pace
as my vacation officially ends tomorrow.

Today I make the trek from New Orleans to Mobile, AL.
I’ll be sure to say hi to Arlene along the way.
